Brief Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Nepal, transfer to hotel.
Day 2: In the morning finalize the Chinese visas, checking the bikes and making final preparations for departure the following day. Afternoon sightseeing of Kathmandu, Swayambunath and Boudhanath.
Day 3: Transfer to a luxury-tented camp, 16km south of the Tibetan border.
Day 4: Depart for the security checkpoint at the Tibetan border, complete immigration formalities. Evening camp (2,900m) is near the Chusang Hot Springs.
Day 5: Advance a small distance for a casual ride as we continue to adjust to the altitude (altitude gain 750m) before settling in at the campsite.
Day 6: Spend the day relaxing or doing a short ride or walk to help our acclimatization.
Day 7: Camp the next two days here (altitude 4,135m) in order to prepare for an assault on the Yurle Shung La pass the following morning.
Day 8: Maintain camp and stretch their legs with a 20km roundtrip towards the southwest face of the mighty Shisapangma. It will be a full-day exploring the area through small village roads.
Day 9: Climb (29km and a 915m gain) to the pass, return to the prior evening’s base camp.
Day 10: From here on, its all straight downhill into Nepal. The brakes will be checked and new brake pads fitted to make the further descent of 2,635m to the Nepalese border. We will return back to the luxury tented camp, have a drink and celebrate the accomplishment.
Day 11: Ride the final descent of another 815m to Dolaghat (670m), return to Kathmandu.
Day 12: Early morning flight to experience the lovely views of the majestic Himlayan peaks. Later, visit Bhaktapur and Pashupatinath.
Day 13: Departure transfer to the international airport for onward flight.
Please note, the riding level for this trip is intermediate and non-technical, though cyclists should be in good physical condition and exercise on a regular basis. The best time of year to make the trip is late September and October.
